Training Day One: 1. FC Köln Begins Bundesliga Prep

Approximately 2,000 fans went to Franz Kremer Stadium Wednesday morning to see the 1. FC Köln begin Bundesliga preparations in the first public training session of the season.

Miso Brecko and Yuya Osako were the lone absences among player personnel, according to the club’s @fckoeln_live Twitter feed, which also posed several photos. I will not bother to give details such as “then they stretched” and “then they ran” and “then there was applause,” but I will poach some of those photos for you (apparently, most of these were taken by Thomas Fähnrich, whom I hope is happy to have them shared here, or I’ll need to remove them!)

Apparently, there was also opportunity for the fans to start their own training regiments, as several vendors of sausages and Kölsch were ready to cater to the spectators.

While fans certainly were happy to see the familiar faces wearing the red and white, curiosity about the newcomers was among the highlights of the day’s program. Seven of Jorg Schmadtke’s new signings (minus Osako) posed with newly extended coach Peter Stöger for a souvenir.

“Uncle Jörg’s Golden Boys”: back: Vogt, Mavraj, Kalas, Stöger, Olkowski, Zoller, Peszko, Svento

But, yeah, otherwise there were some stretching, running, kicking, and all that. It’s practice!

Yet, with a day off from the World Cup, what better time for the ball to get rolling between our boys in rut un wiess?

Dominic Maroh posted this image on Facebook with a message of congratulations to Coach on his new contract extension.

From Mergim Mavraj’s Facebook, the new defender from Greuther Fürth with Tomas Kalas, who is on loan from Chelsea FC.

Serious Slawomir Peszko seriously stretching with stretchy thingies.

Yannick Gerhardt looking mighty. Again, thanks for sticking around, kid!

There are many, many more photos to be seen
