Whether you spend next Saturday making the trip to Meppen and back for the 1. FC Köln DFB Cup match against SV Meppen, or you just watch it from home, you’ll want
to clear your Sunday calendar for the club’s season opening celebration.
The family-friendly event, taking place on the grounds outside RheineEnergieStadion, is an effzeh tradition. Last year’s event drew about 20,000 fans.
Under the motto “Everything Remains Different,” the festivities will start at noon on Sunday August 9th and include a presentation of the team, musical performances, autograph sessions, and a variety of activities for children of all ages, not to mention the presence of undisputed champion of the football-mascot world, Hennes, along with his newfangled ‘Hennesmobile.’
The 1. FC Köln womens team will also be presented and congratulated for their promotion to the Bundesliga.
And, of course, there will be a beer garden. Musn’t forget the beer garden.
Admission is free, so if you’re anywhere near Köln next weekend, throw your jersey on, grab your scarf, and get ready to celebrate the end of the summer break among your fellow effzeh.
