Already down two central defenders, the 1. FC Köln can hardly afford to lose yet another to injury. Hence, when Frederik Sørensen failed to participate in some of Tuesday morning’s training sessions, you can’t be too surprised when pulses around the Cathedral City immediately quickened.
Allow coach Peter Stöger to reduce any panic on the matter.
“He took a blow to a muscle over the weekend. The (speed and strength) training today would have been counter-productive,” explained the coach. “He will be back either this afternoon or tomorrow, but for the weekend it is absolutely not an issue.”
As always, you can take any coach’s proclamations about player status with a grain of salt, especially when they are being somewhat vague. Here, though, Stöger is fairly clear, so we should likely just take his quotes at face value and not start to formulate potential plans for a makeshift central defense come Saturday to deal with the Hamburger SV.
