By all appearances, the footballing future of young winger Lucas Cueto will play out somewhere other than 1. FC Köln. With his contract set to expire this summer and no extension agreement in the works, the 19-year-old appears to be seeking a winter transfer away from the club.
Our friends at Geissblog.Koeln have reported that Cueto was last seen with the professional side last Thursday, exchanging words with coach Peter Stöger after a training session. The young talent did not train with the first team Friday, nor did he participate in Saturday’s test against MSV Duisburg. Instead, Cueto has been relegated to the U-21 team until which time he’s able to find a new club.
“It is true that we have not agreed on a contract extension,” Stoeger said on Monday. “The squad is big enough, and during the time he maybe is seeking something else, he should train with the amateurs. ”
According to Marc L. Merten’s report, U21 Andrew Heck is not planning the remainder of his season with Cueto as part of his side, believing Cueto will leave the club in January.
