On Wednesday, Kevin Vogt will spend his 24th birthday recovering from a broken nose and concussion suffered in the second half of 1. FC Köln’s 2:0 loss to Hertha BSC.
The injury came in the midst of an aerial battle with Vladimir Darida in the 63rd minute during which Vogt’s nose and cheek appeared to collide with back of the Czech attacker’s head. When referee Florian Meyer approached Vogt to check on the midfielder as he lay on the ground, he immediately signalled for medical assistance.
Vogt would ultimately be carried from the field not to return.
After the game, coach Peter Stöger was quoted as saying “As far as I can judge, it does not look good,” while Marcel Risse offered that the injury “looked nasty.”
Later on Tuesday, the club delivered a status update via Twitter, writing: “Diagnosis for Kevin #Vogt: Broken nose and concussion. Get well, Kevin!”

Vogt has already been ruled out for Friday’s home match against FC Ingolstadt.
