Now that we have several weeks without opponents over which to worry, Planet Effzeh can turn their attentions to concerns over the buying and selling of player personnel, among other off-pitch items.
Probably until the very final moment of the transfer window (unless a move is made before then), the lion’s share of the fretting will go toward the fate of Anthony Modeste. Thanks to insane offers from China and the rules of modern football, which state that any player who shows enough ability in service to a “smaller” club is required to move to one of the giants of Europe.
Or to England, I suppose.
Word is that French club Olympique Marseille, which is located reasonably near to Big Mo’s hometown of Cannes . . .
Wait . . . Modeste is from Cannes, where they have the famous film festival. No wonder he’s a star.
Anyhow, Marseille is among the new wave of clubs that have been purchased by billionaires who promise (often debt-fuelled) cash infusions into the club in the hopes of striking instant glory. Personally, I wouldn’t trust Frank McCourt (the guy who owns Olympique, apparently) any further than his ex-wife Jamie could throw him, but you can read on his time as owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers if you’re interested in all that.
I’m here today to address 0nly our guy, Anthony Modeste, and his recent Instagram post which has people believing either that it is proof that he is preparing to leave or that he’s proclaiming his intent to stay in Köln, depending on how one was inclined to believe before reading it, I am certain.
Scroll down for Modeste’s Instagram post, or just click here to surf to it. Feel free to believe what you will about Modeste’s intentions.
Otherwise, I’ll do the German-to-English conversion for you here:
This club, which carried me through the season that just ended, unfortunately also had to bemoan injured players. However, those players were mentally very important for those who were able to play. We often had to question ourselves and remain humble with regard to the work and the spirit of the team and improve ourselves. The FC is an institution in Cologne, its supporters are the cornerstone, and we, the inventory.
Yesterday we became 5th and now will be playing in the Europa League.
This season was magical for the team and me personally. The emotions that you have let me feel are indescribable. You are my trophy and I have trembled along with you. As an individual player, I also had my doubts as well as disappointments, but you were my most beautiful gift. You supported me in a way that goes far beyond the bounds of the 1. FC Köln.
We played in front of 50,000 spectators in every match.
I finished the season on the podium with great attackers like Aubameyang and Lewandowski.
What a success. I thank you for the tremendous support. I am still under contract at the 1. FC Köln, a loveable and honorable club. A club that represents professionalism and humanity to this day.
I love, in gratitude, this club and beyond that the entire city. My wife and my children feel very comfortable in Cologne. We are integrated and extremely happy. I would never have expected such a situation in Germany.
I love this country!
You have supported me and I developed with you.
I am also thankful for the nationwide support. The way about which I was written in Germany was always praised in France.
Come on FC !!!!!! EUROPAPOKAL !!!!
